Blog 1 - 29/09/2020 - A Brief Introduction

From the description of the blog site itself, you can gather an idea of what my blog involves. The idea for the blog firstly stemmed from being asked to create one by a lecturer in one of my Marketing modules as a piece of coursework.

When it came to thinking about what to write I decided to try and reach the widest demographic. Writing about mental health in some way meant everyone could be addressed, as everyone struggles with it from time to time.

I then chose our modern digital world to coincide with the mental health aspect as it meant the blog would have an ever-changing very recently implemented feature of society, affecting the same core idea of mental health.

Be it social media, loss of jobs due to a digital world and what we do as a people every day now being changed by digital technologies, I have a wealth of topics to cover.

I would like to close this brief opening blog by saying how passionately I feel for the subject of this venture from here at the start and moving forward.

Below is a diagram showing just how horrific my digital addiction is. I am sure many of you spend similar amounts of time and do not even realise it. Seeing statistics such as this is a real inspiration for the subject of this vlog. At times I often wonder would I be a happier person in general if I take the time my phone is playing a video or impersonally messaging someone I could easily speak to face to face with and use it better elsewhere to fulfil my life more authentically.

In the coming weeks, I will cover how this digital world affects us both negatively and positively.

I believe it is crucial all of us have some idea when it comes to malicious strategies from big tech companies such as Facebook, constantly trying to keep you hooked to their bespoke privacy intruding algorithms they have schemed for you.

Finally, through this blog, it will also be noted how good a digital world can be for us as a society and how we can neglect the perversion of how technology changes us mentally for the worse.

Thanks so much for reading!

I'm very new at this and am excited to see what comes from it. Keep a lookout on Instagram to be notified when new blogs are uploaded. Your viewership truly means a lot, not only to me personally but the statistics I have available to me in my coming coursework.
